When you do technology event photography and video in Lisbon at the scale of the Microsoft AI Tour, it stops being a one-person job. Microsoft has been a recurring client over the last few years, and for this edition, at the Pavilhão Carlos Lopes, we put together a team of four: two photographers and two videographers. An event with a main stage, simultaneous breakout rooms, an exhibition area and networking can't be covered properly with less than that.
The first decision in a job like this is how to deploy the team. With two photographers and two videographers, we can be in several places at once: the main stage is never left uncovered while a session is being filmed in a breakout room, and there's always someone capturing the networking and exhibition moments that bring the event to life. Coordinating who's where, and making sure nothing important happens without coverage, is half the work — and it only goes well with people who've worked together before.
Before the content, we showcased the space. The venue and set design of a Microsoft event are part of the message: the Pavilhão Carlos Lopes, the stage build, the screens, the way the audience moves between the breakout rooms and the exhibition area. These are the first images delivered and the ones that frame everything else.
A central requirement of this kind of event is feeding social media in real time. After each panel, we sent a selection of photographs over Wi-Fi, still during the event, so the brand's communication team could publish while the session was still fresh. This cadence — shoot, edit fast, send, back to the floor — runs in parallel with the full coverage and is what makes the difference between delivering everything the next day and being present on social media while the event is happening.
On the video side, beyond the event film, the team dedicated itself to the interviews. We recorded client testimonials and success stories present at the event, so Microsoft would be left with an archive of real voices — people telling what they do with the technology, captured on the day, in a controlled setting, away from the main stage. It's content that outlives the event and that the brand uses long after the lights go out.
In the end, this is what a well-built team delivers at a technology event: simultaneous coverage of everything, images on social media at the pace of the event, and an archive of photography, film and interviews that serves the brand for months.
